Cambridge University’s most sociable society
Founded in September 2024, the Mature Student Society (MSS) has quickly grown to nearly 1,000 members. Our mission if to make the full Cambridge experience accessible to everyone —regardless of age, background, or life path.
We’re proud to be one of Cambridge University’s most welcoming and sociable societies. From social events and networking opportunities to well-being support and crowd-sourced advice, MSS is here to help you thrive, both academically and personally.
Who We’re For?
MSS exists to support and connect those who may not follow the traditional student journey. You’ll fit right in if you’re:
Returning to academia after a career or caring responsibilities
Finally pursuing long-held academic ambitions, or maybe career-change qualifications.
Just that little bit older than most of your peers (or just feel older!)
Our youngest member is 21, our oldest over 80.
Our Community Includes:
Undergraduate and postgraduate students (MPhils, PhDs)
Postdocs, research fellows, and university researchers
Professional and Continuing Education students
Faculty and lab staff, librarians, and other university employees
Visiting scholars and researchers
The partners and children of any of the above
Whether you’re here to study, teach, research—or support someone who is—MSS offers a warm, inclusive space where you belong.
