Well-being Support

At MSS, we understand that mature students at Cambridge face unique challenges—often juggling academic pressures with careers, family responsibilities, or major life changes.

Many are new to the area, to the university system, or even to the UK itself. It’s easy to feel isolated or overwhelmed. You’re not alone—and we’re here to help.

Support That Understands You

Our community is built on empathy, experience, and shared understanding. Whether you’re looking for someone to talk to, help navigating university life, or just a friendly face at an event, MSS is here to support your well-being in every way we can.

We offer:

• A Mature Students Talking Group: We collaborate with the University’s Student Services to host an in-person support group designed specifically for mature students. Held weekly, this welcoming space offers a chance to talk openly about the challenges of university life—whether that’s academic pressure, feelings of isolation, or adjusting to a new environment. It’s a supportive, confidential setting where experiences are shared and voices are heard.

• Practical advice: From housing to healthcare, childcare to course deadlines, we offer peer-to-peer guidance and “hive mind” solutions.

• Advocacy: Need help dealing with a department or college issue? We can support you in finding the right channels—or speak up on your behalf.

• Qualified support: Some members of our well-being team have professional training in areas such as counselling, coaching, or mental health first aid. While we don’t replace professional services, we can offer an informed, compassionate bridge to further help.

A Space to Belong

Our events and online forums are designed to foster connection and reduce isolation.

Whether it’s a walk-and-talk meet-up, a relaxed family-friendly gathering, or just a check-in with the well-being chat, we’re always working to create spaces where you can feel seen, supported, and included.
